“EL
MENCHO” ESTATE. As you can see on the map, "El Mencho" is located in the eastern sector of Sierra Morena, in the north of the province of Jaen, in Southern Spain, very close to the borders of the provinces of Ciudad Real and Albacete. VEGETATION. The vegetation is a perfect example of the Mediterranean forest. Among other tree species you can find: holm oak, American oak, Kermes oak, cork tree, wild olive, barberry, strawberry tree, pine and ash. The brush is formed by rosemary, french lavender, thyme, marjoram, phillyrea angustifolia, gum and crimson-spot rockrose, cistus, spurge, lentisc, tamarisk and oleander. (We recommend reading the beautiful work: "Bestiary of Sierra Morena". Ed. Aldaba. by Alfonso de Urquijo and Francisco León for a deeper knowledge of this subject). The vegetation is in a very good condition and is exuberant and luxuriant, making the hunt more challenging and thus attractive, or not? The land is abrupt. It is formed by valleys and brooks of intricate shapes, but there is an extensive network of trails that make it easy to move about. ANIMAL LIFE. Among others you can find the following species on the estate: Big game: Spanish red deer (cervus elaphus), European mouflon (ovis musimon) and wild boar (sus scrofa). Small game: red partridge, rabbit, wood pigeon, turtledove, thrush, blue duck. Non-hunting species: fox, wildcat, polecat, steenmarter, weasel, badger, otter, genet, lizard, viper, blue jay, azure-winged magpie, blackbird, golden oriole, bee-eater, bonelli´s eagle, long-eared owl, little owl, etc. THE AREA. "El Mencho" is situated in an area with a time-honored hunting tradition. It is surrounded by well-known preserves such as La Alameda and La Antigua, and in the region we can find some of the most famous hunting estates in Spain, including El Cerro del Toro, Cañadillas, Cerrajeros, Navalcaballo, San Agustín, El Campillo Bajo, El Campillo Alto, Las Torrecillas, Los Engarbos, El Morrón de las Mujeres, La Cañada de las Niñas, Tinajones, Las Beatas, La Rinconada, Zabala, Venta Nueva, Puerto Laca, La Carnicera, El Puerco, Chozas, and many others...
